A new pharmacy service is now available to Ayrshire and Arran patients which provides  access to self-care advice for the treatment of impetigo for children and adults aged from 2years and simple urinary tract infections (UTI) in non pregnant women aged 16-64 years old. After assessment and where appropriate, a community pharmacist can supply antibiotics, free of charge, to treat the infection. Offering professional advice and treatment in pharmacies not only takes pressure off GP services, including out-of-hours, but also makes it easier for people to get help without having to make an appointment. Community pharmacies are open six days a week, and some operate in the evenings and on Sundays.

Patient Choice

 

The Practice operates as a partnership, however, patients are able to express their wish to see a particular Doctor and this can be voiced when discussing your needs with Practice staff. There may be times when the Doctor you wish to see is not available at which time you will be offered an appointment with another GP in the Practice. Should you require seeing a Doctor in an emergency situation you must be prepared to see the on-call Doctor at that particular time.

 

Patients Rights

 

The practice operates a non-discriminatory policy in that all patients shall be dealt with equally regardless of race, religion, gender, age, sexuality, disability, or socio-economic status. You are entitled to complain about any service or treatment you have received that you are unhappy with. Complaints can be received by appropriate relatives or guardians. Complaints will be dealt with initially by the Practice Manager. Patients are entitled to access their health records and this can be done by arrangement via the Practice Manager.

You may accept or refuse treatment including examinations, tests, and diagnostic procedures. Please ensure that you have been given enough information to enable you to make an informed choice.

 

Patient Conduct - Violence & Aggression

 

London Road Medical Practice is committed to treating all its patients with dignity and respect and in return we expect all patients to treat our staff in the same way.

 

There has recently been an increase in the number of incidents of aggression towards our staff.  We take this issue very seriously and therefore please note that we consider aggressive behaviour to be any abusive or aggressive comments, swearing, inappropriate physical contact or aggressive gestures.

 

We will request the removal of any patient from the practice list who is aggressive or abusive towards a doctor, a member of staff, another patient, or who damages property.

 

All instances of actual physical abuse on any doctor or member of staff, by a patient or their relatives will be reported to the police as an assault.
